Moving can take a lot of time! We recommend starting 4-6 weeks ahead of the move when possible. This allows you to take your time and stress less, setting you up for a stress-free move. In this post we will explore 4 helpful tips on how to start packing up your house and cut down on potential frustrations.

4 Tips to Help You Start Packing!

1. Have a Designated Packing Zone

Make a zone and claim it as your own. Having all of your packing materials spread all over the house is going to waste your time. As a result, make it super frustrating when you really need the packing tape or another box. When you start packing have a designated space where you can grab what you need and not have to go searching. Your packing zone can move as you move between rooms. Claim a corner, a counter, or even a whole empty room. Just make sure your zone is well-stocked with packing supplies like tape, markers, and boxes.

2. Label Your Boxes

Get that black sharpie and label every box on both sides with the following information. This is going to be a lifesaver come move-in day!

  • What room it needs to go to
  • The contents
  • Whether or not it’s fragile

This is going to be a lifesaver come move-in day!

3. Use Sturdy Boxes

Before you can label your boxes, you need to get some. You might be tempted to scour the grocery stores or ask friends for cheap/free boxes. These boxes are typically flimsy and not secure for your precious belongings. Invest in boxes that are actually designed for residential moving. They’re basically custom-made to handle anything homeowners can put in them. We sell moving boxes and deliver them right to you. And we make sure that these boxes are sturdy, reliable, and recyclable. You can give them to a friend, or we’ll pick them up and recycle them for you.

4. Don’t Pack What You Don’t Need

If you don’t need it, there’s really no sense in packing it. This can save you a lot of time and may even a bit of money. Consider selling items you no longer need.
