Moving can be exciting yet overwhelming.  Packing up your entire house can be a daunting task, especially if you don’t know where to start.  But worry not, we’ve got you covered.  In this blog post, we will give you some helpful house packing tips to get the job done in an efficient and effective way.

Sort and declutter

Before you start packing, it’s important to sort through your belongings and declutter.  Not only will it help you reduce the amount of stuff you have to pack, but it will also save you time and energy when unpacking.  To sort and declutter, make three piles: keep, donate/sell, and throw away.  This way, you can avoid packing things that you no longer need or use.

Get house packing supplies

Gather all the essentials you’ll need for packing.  Make sure you have enough boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, markers, and labels.  You can purchase these supplies online or at a local moving store.  Don’t forget to label each box with its contents for easy unpacking.

House Packing Pro Tip: Visit grocery stores for used boxes and news outlets for leftover newspapers.  This will save you big bucks, while also repurposing existing materials.

Pack room by room

Start by packing one room at a time.  This method is helpful for staying organized and focused.  Pack the least-used items first, followed by the everyday essentials.  As you pack, keep similar items together in a box and label them clearly, so it’s easy to locate later.

Use the right technique

When packing fragile belongings such as glassware and china, be sure to use the right technique.  Wrap each item individually in bubble wrap, then place it in a box with additional padding.  Be sure to label the box as fragile, so the movers know to handle it with care.

House Packing Pro tip: Consider using spare blankets, linens, towels, and clothing to pad fragile items.

Pack an essentials box

Finally, pack a box of essential items such as toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, and important documents.  Keep this box close at all times and don’t let it get lost in the sea of boxes.  This box should be the last thing you pack, and the first thing you unpack.  It will help you feel more settled in your new home.

Conclusion:

Packing for a move can be a stressful experience, but with these tips, you can make it a lot easier.  Remember to sort and declutter, get the right supplies, pack room by room, use the right technique, and pack an essentials box.  By following these simple steps, you’ll be well on your way to an organized and stress-free move.  Good luck!
