If you’re old enough, you might remember how difficult it used to be to move those classic, boxy old TVs. Luckily, technology has come a long way since then. Now, most TVs weigh a fraction of what they used to, making them much easier to move.
That said, there is still a proper way to go about packing a TV for moving so that it does not get damaged.
Let’s take a look!
1. Disconnect any Cords or Wires
The first step you need to take when moving and packing a TV is to carefully disconnect any wires or cords that are used to power your TV or any devices that are connected to your TV.
During this step, it’s important that you exercise extreme caution. Make sure you are gentle when unplugging cords so you do not cause any damage or injure yourself.
After they have been disconnected, consider taping cords to the back of the TV so they do not hang down and create a tripping hazard when you are moving and packing a TV.
2. Find a Way to Protect the Screen
The screen is perhaps the most vulnerable part of your TV. Even the softest contact with another object can cause scratches and scuffs, resulting in irreparable damage.
In order to make sure that this does not happen, cover the screen of your TV with a soft blanket or towel. It’s also a good idea to tape this towel or blanket to the TV so that it doesn’t slide off.
3. Pack the TV in The Appropriate Moving Box
The next thing you’ll need to do is purchase the right moving box to store your TV in. Like the blanket mentioned in the last step, the moving box serves as an added precaution to protect the screed and other components from damage.
4. Carefully Load the TV Into the Moving Vehicle
If your TV gets damaged, it will likely be during one of two times – when you’re loading it into the moving vehicle or when you’re taking it out.
To make sure that this doesn’t happen, exercise extreme caution when loading and unloading your TV. Watch out for tripping hazards, sharp corners, or any other items that could potentially cause damage to your TV.
5. Scout Out a Place For Your TV in Your New Home Before Bringing it In
It’s also helpful to have a spot picked out for your TV before you bring it into your new home, especially if it’s a large TV that requires more than one person to move.
This way, you can get it set up right away and won’t need to spend precious time moving it back and forth between rooms.
6. Clean the screen and Components
Despite taking all of the necessary precautions, sometimes dust and grime still find a way to settle on your TV screen. Take a damp cloth to clean these imperfections. Make sure that you don’t apply too much moisture though, or you risk damaging the electrical components on the back of your TV.
7. Pick Out Your Favourite Netflix Show and Relax!
Alright, time for the fun part! Connect your Netflix account, pick your favourite show, and make some popcorn. It’s time to relax!
