We all move sooner or later, from our parents’ place to our own place, from rooms to dorms to apartments, from one city to another. There are movers who help you in the whole “moving” process, from sorting and packing to moving and unpacking, but you still have to know what to do to be able to oversee it efficiently.
Having so much to do in so little time, it’s natural to have a few glitches and uh oh moments even if you are an experienced mover. We are here to give you some complete no-nos to save you time, effort, and money.
Don’t just start packing all of a sudden. Think before you act; gather supplies for packaging and labeling, particularly boxes, bins, markers, and tape.
Don’t just pack stuff haphazardly in bins and boxes. Declutter and organize; Throw away stuff you don’t intend to use. Label boxes and bags, make a list with box numbers and items in the box to help localize when reopening.
Don’t pack away your essentials. Make a bag for your essentials that should have enough necessities to last you at least a week. It should have clothes, personal grooming items, medications, documents, and electronics; don’t forget the chargers!
Don’t be shy to ask for help if you know you can’t do all the packing and move by yourself, for any reason. Friends, family, and moving services, anyone can be called upon for help when you need them.
Don’t just go to any moving service, do a little research beforehand, ask friends who have recently moved for referrals. And get the right insurance coverage, just in case.
Don’t overstress yourself a day before the big move. Having no time for rest and being out of energy will make you lose all the excitement for the new place. Plus you’ll need all the energy to make the new place your home.
Don’t give yourself too much or too little time to pack, move, or unpacking. Stop. Breathe. You got this.
